UAE participates in first G-20 Sous-Sherpa Dialogue

JAKARTA, A delegation from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation concluded its participation in the first Group of 20 (G-20) Informal Sous-Sherpa Dialogue held virtually on 11th February.

The Sous-Sherpa Dialogue gathered official representatives of G-20 member countries, guest invitees, and selected international organisations, to discuss Indonesia’s suggested areas for concrete, tangible, and impactful collaboration within the G-20 under the G-20 2022 theme of “Recover Together, Recover Stronger”.

During the meeting, Indonesia presented its key priorities, amongst which were Global Health Architecture, Digital Transformation, and Energy Transitions, and sought input from the Sous-Sherpas through an interactive discussion.

The UAE delegation was led by Abdulnasser Alshaali, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs and UAE Sous-Sherpa. During the meeting, Alshaali conveyed the UAE’s support for Indonesia’s ambition to showcase substantive G-20 deliverables, and highlighted the UAE’s feedback across priority areas.

The UAE has convened a cross-government Steering Committee and Technical Committee to coordinate the country’s efforts at the G-20. These efforts are led by Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State and UAE Sherpa, for the Sherpa Track, and Younis Alkhoori, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Finance and UAE Finance Deputy, for the Finance Track. It is expected that the UAE will participate in over 150 G-20 meetings in the lead-up to the G-20 Summit in October 2022.

Established in 1999, the G-20 is an intergovernmental forum comprising representatives of the world’s largest economies that works to strengthen international economic cooperation.
