UAE to participate in 41st ICAO General Assembly

ABU DHABI, The UAE, represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), will participate in the 41st General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), in Montreal, Canada.

The country’s delegation will be headed by Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the GCAA, and will include Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, GCAA Director-General, and several experts.

During the meetings of the assembly, the UAE will reapply for membership in the ICAO Council in the third category for 2022-2025, during elections to be held from 27th September to 7th October 2022.

Delegations from 193 countries will participate in the event, in addition to several relevant regional and international organisations.

The UAE joined the ICAO in 1972 and became a member of the council in 2008. It maintained its membership for the fifth consecutive occasion in 2019. During this period, the UAE supported the efforts to ensure the future of aviation and achieve the ICAO’s strategic objectives.

The UAE has many factors that support its candidacy, including its regional and international stature in the aviation sector.

According to the ICAO’s statute, its 193 member states will select only 36 countries to form the ICAO Council, which is the legislative body of the organisation.
