UAE Tour squad unveiled ahead of key season target

ABU DHABI, UAE Team Emirates has announced its lineup of 7 riders for the upcoming UAE Tour, which will take place from 20-26 February. The team, who are the defending champions, will be led by former race winner Adam Yates, who won the overall title in 2020 and also secured a solo stage win on Jebel Hafeet that year.

Alongside Yates, the team boasts a strong roster, with Jay Vine expected to put in a good showing in the GC and Sebastian Molano hoping to secure his first win of the season in the sprint stages. Mikkel Bjerg, Vegard Stake Laengen, Brandon McNulty, and Marc Soler round out the team.

Speaking ahead of the race, Yates expressed his excitement and motivation to finally start racing with the team. He acknowledged that the UAE Tour is a race that has suited him well in the past and that there is a little more pressure with the UAE jersey on his back as defending champion, but this only motivates him to do well.

Joxean Matxin Fernandez, UAE Team Emirates’ Sports Manager, highlighted the significance of the race as one of the team’s season objectives, along with the Tour de France. He emphasised that the team’s aim will be to defend their title from last year, with Yates taking on the role of leader, but also noted that the team will have different options throughout the race as it unfolds.

Sports Directors Fabio Baldato and Marco Marzano will join Fernandez in leading the team in the race. With a powerful roster and the support of the home crowd, UAE Team Emirates will be hoping to successfully defend their title and secure a strong start to the season.
