UN representative stresses need to increase destinations for flights to and from Sana’a airport

The UN representative to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, stressed today, Wednesday, the need to increase the number of destinations for flights to and from Sana’a International Airport, and to open Hodeida ports o smoothly.

Grundberg also stressed, in a press conference upon his departure today from Sana’a International Airport, the importance of resuming the country’s oil exports, opening the main roads in Taiz and other provinces, and paying salaries to all public sector employees on a regular basis.

He described his visit to Sana’a and his meetings and discussions with officials as positive, frank and constructive.

“I had positive meetings with the authorities in Sana’a, where we had frank and constructive discussions about how to move forward,” he said.

Grundberg pointed out the need to prepare for a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations to discuss the terms of communication for a just peace, expressing his aspiration to return to Sana’a soon to continue the meetings.

He added, “I am pleased to stand in this place where the prisoners were reunited with their loved ones, at a time coinciding with Eid al-Fitr.”
