Yemeni National Midwives Association stresses importance of midwives role in providing health care to mothers

The Yemeni National Midwives Association stressed on Friday the importance of the role of midwives in providing reproductive health services to women, especially in light of the worsening humanitarian conditions in Yemen.

In a statement issued by the Society on the occasion of the International Day of Midwives, which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the Association stated that midwives represent an essential pillar in improving health care for mothers and children and family health.. stressing the importance of this occasion to highlight the importance of the midwifery profession and the difficulties it faces and the effects of aggression and siege on Reproductive Health services.

Referred to the services provided by midwives, including providing advice to pregnant women and providing the necessary care for mothers and infants, during childbirth and in emergency situations, which contributes to reducing childbirth-related death rates.

The statement pointed out that a woman dies every two hours during childbirth in Yemen from preventable causes, and that there are about 8.1 million women and girls of childbearing age who need reproductive health services, including emergency obstetric care.

The statement referred to the association’s efforts to improve the role of midwives, develop their capabilities, and raise awareness of the importance of their role in society. Called on the concerned organizations to provide support to midwives and facilities that provide reproductive health services to enhance their role in reducing childbirth-related death rates.
