6-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Eastern Indonesia

An earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale hit Maluku, a province south of Indonesia.

A statement issued by Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said that the earthquake’s epicenter occurred 136 km from the Teba province area and at a depth of 153 km.

So far, there have been no reports of material or human losses due to the earthquake.

On May 22, an earthquake measuring 5.1 struck Maluku Barat Daya Regency in Maluku Province at a depth of 10 km.

Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
