CPI up by 3.98% in January-March 2023

The Consumer Price Index (CPI), a measure of inflation, inched up 3.98 percent in the January-March period of 2023, reaching 108.26 points against 104.11 in the same period of 2022.

According to a monthly report issued by the Department of Statistics (DoS) on Tuesday, the biggest drivers of the increase were fuels and lighting, rents, transportation, dairy products and eggs, and healthcare, which each contributed 31.75pct, 5.17pct, 3.24pct, 8.73pct, and 6.71pct, respectively.

The general index of consumer prices for March of this year reached 108.83, compared with 104.73 during the same month of last year, marking an increase of 3.91 percent, the data revealed.
