Indian Ministers congratulate Sultan Al Jaber on appointment as COP28 President-Designate

NEW DELHI, Indian ministries relevant to the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) have overwhelmingly pledged their support to Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber following his appointment as President-Designate of the next climate change conference.

India’s Minister for External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, said Dr. Al Jaber’s “comprehensive experience of energy and climate change bodes well for a successful COP28.”

He called for “synergising our endeavors at G20 and COP28.” India is the current Chair of the Group of Twenty (G20) countries and the UAE will host COP28.

Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, wrote on Twitter, “Heartiest congratulations and best wishes for a successful COP28, Dr. Jaber. With your comprehensive experience of energy and climate change, it will be a landmark COP in Dubai.”

Bhupender Yadav, Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, assured India’s full support for a successful COP28.

He said, “Both India and the UAE have been world leaders in working on climate change. Heartiest congratulations to Dr Sultan Al Jaber on becoming COP28 President-Designate.”
