Insan Organization issues report entitled ‘Knowledge Behind Bars in Secret Prisons – Yemen’


Insan Organization for Rights and Liberties issued a report entitled ‘Knowledge Behind the Bars in Secret Prisons – Yemen’ coinciding with the International Day of Education, corresponding to January 24.

The report highlights the violations and challenges faced by students, teachers, and academics in Yemen as a result of the closure of Sana’a Airport, testimonies from victims and families of victims who are still detained, in addition to documents and photos of civilian detainees who died in prisons as a result of ill-treatment.

The report touched on the impact of the closure of Sana’a Airport on the movement of Yemeni students, teachers, and academics, as it is the main and only air port that serves the high population density in Yemen, pointing out that many individuals who were forced to travel by land via Aden or Marib were subjected to violations due to their affiliation or political background, which affected the educational process and freedom of movement.

The Insan Organization for Rights and Libe
rties documented about 176 crimes against teachers, students, and academics and conducted 67 interviews with students, academics, and teachers who were victims of kidnappings and arrests, in addition to 17 interviews with the families of detainees and kidnapped persons, in the prisons of Marib and Aden.

The report consists of 54 pages in Arabic and 64 pages in English, and includes testimonies related to violations carried out by the forces of the so-called Transitional Council supported by the UAE in Aden and the forces of the Islah Party supported by Saudi Arabia in Marib.

Insan Organization called on the relevant authorities and organizations to cooperate to protect Yemeni students, teachers and academics, ensure their safety, and release all civilian detainees
