Joint statement: UAE and Turkmenistan affirm their keenness to enhance cooperation in various fields

ABU DHABI, The UAE and Turkmenistan have affirmed their keenness to enhance joint cooperation in various fields, especially trade, education, culture, tourism, sports, renewable energy, among others.

In a joint statement, the two nations also stressed the importance of international cooperation in achieving peace, security and development, as well as efforts to promote dialogue, mutual respect, understanding and tolerance, while combatting all forms of extremism.

Below is the full text of the UAE-Turkmenistan Joint Statement:

“On 21st November, 2022, at the invitation of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Turkmenistan, conducted an official visit to the United Arab Emirates.

During the visit, the Presidents of Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates exchanged views on bilateral ties and prospects for their development in significant areas of economic and socio-cultural cooperation, as well as on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Stressing the importance of economic engagement, both sides expressed their desire to expand mutually beneficial economic cooperation while taking into account the interests of each party. They also discussed opportunities in this area and declared their intention to advance joint efforts to bolster cooperation in priority areas such as oil and gas, oil processing, chemicals, and renewable energy.

The two sides also expressed support for entrepreneurs in both countries in order to strengthen investment cooperation while implementing joint projects.

Both sides underlined that cooperation in the field of transport and connectivity is essential to the development of economic partnership between the two countries. In this context, they emphasised the importance of cooperation between international ports in Turkmenistan and the UAE.

Recognising the significance of cooperation as an important means to bring people together, improve mutual understanding, enrich both cultures, and develop bilateral friendship, the two leaders agreed to intensify cultural exchange, as well as develop cooperation in the areas of tourism, sports, science, and education.

The Presidents of Turkmenistan and the UAE attach special importance to strengthening the key role of United Nations in improving international security, sustainable development, and conflict prevention. The heads of both countries declared that terrorism, transnational crime, and drug trafficking and psychotropic substances are among the main threats to global peace and security and affirmed their readiness to develop cooperation to combat these challenges.

Both leaders noted the importance of international cooperation in achieving peace, security, and development in efforts to promote dialogue, mutual respect, understanding, and tolerance while countering all forms of extremism.

In this vein, both leaders underlined their countries’ commitment to fostering a climate of confidence and mutual understanding, to strengthen stability and prosperity both at regional and international levels. They also underlined that addressing international issues should only occur through peaceful diplomatic means.

The two sides emphasised that international initiatives launched by their countries at the regional and international levels serve to strengthen peace, sustainable development, and universal human values.

The President of Turkmenistan praised the role of the UAE as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2022-2023 period, and in turn, the UAE President expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the President of Turkmenistan in developing dialogue at the regional and global levels through the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly resolutions: “The Role and Importance of the Neutrality Policy in Maintaining and Promoting International Peace and Security and Sustainable Development” and “International Year of Peace and Trust 2021”.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his extraordinary hospitality and warmth and he invited His Highness to visit Turkmenistan. The invitation was received with gratitude.”
