Jordan seeks Iraq’s recognition of its public and private universities

The Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced today, Thursday, its efforts to obtain Iraq’s recognition of all Jordanian public and private universities.

The media Spokesman for the Ministry, Muhannad al-Khatib, said, “Delegations from the Ministry will visit all Arab countries, especially the Gulf countries, to obtain recognition of higher education institutions.”

Al-Khatib added, during his hosting on the Kingdom TV, that “the delegations will communicate with those concerned in the Ministries of higher education in the Arab countries, to find out the reasons for limiting the recognition process to limited numbers of universities, whether public or private.”

He pointed to “the ministry’s endeavor to obtain decisions for recognition in Jordanian universities, as happened with Saudi Arabia and Iraq.”

He stressed that “the Ministry, in the recruitment plan, does not distinguish between official or private institutions, but they are national institutions, as they support the plan to promote studies in them.”

He pointed out that “the Saudi recognition of Jordanian universities will have a positive impact, and will be reflected in attracting large numbers of Saudi students to study in all institutions of higher education.”

He noted that “recently, there has been communication between officials in the Ministry and the cultural attaché at the Saudi Embassy in Amman, which resulted in a decision that was officially reached by the Ministry to announce the recognition of all higher education institutions.”

He indicated that, “Saudi Arabia, in the past, recognized limited numbers of Jordanian universities, but today we have reached the accreditation of all higher education institutions in the country.”

He said, “A Jordanian academic delegation visited, a few months ago, Iraq and the Kurdistan region, which resulted in Iraq accrediting all official universities.”

He added, “Private universities were asked to apply for accreditation from the Iraqi authorities,” noting that “the Kurdistan region of Iraq granted all higher education institutions in Jordan accreditation.”/ End
