Caretaker Interior and Municipalities Minister, Judge Bassam Mawlawi’s press office issued a statement this afternoon, re-affirming that the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities has proven its readiness and capability to hold the parliamentary elections on time, contrary to the intentions of some at that time, and similarly, it is fully capable of conducting the municipal and mayoral elections both logistically and administratively when the necessary funding is secured (which Minister Mawlawi has repeatedly demanded since last January). In this context, Mawlawi’s office reiterated the need to respect the constitutional deadlines and entitlements in order to ensure the regularity of the work of institutions, and the importance of giving the Lebanese an opportunity to express their opinions in full transparency.
