Ministry of Agriculture bans import of frozen poultry

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has banned the import of frozen poultry from outside the country.

The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Abdulmalik Al-Thawr, told Yemen News Agency (Saba) on Sunday that the decision to ban the import of frozen poultry comes within the framework of the ministry’s directions to encourage and protect local production, in a way that does not affect small local producers.

Al-Thawr mentioned that the import of frozen poultry caused many poultry farms to stop production.

The Minister of Agriculture stressed the importance of importers’ commitment to the ban, which would be applied for a period of six months, taking into account finding an appropriate mechanism to ensure the provision of consumers’ requirements and poultry needs from local farms at reasonable prices.

He stressed the need for coordination between the concerned authorities in this aspect, in a way that contributes to supporting local products, including poultry, developing this sector and enhancing its role in food security.
