Palestinian authority: 97 pct of water in Gaza “undrinkable”

Some 97 percent of water in the Gaza Strip is undrinkable with 25 percent of the area lacking sewage networks, said Palestine Water Authority (PWA) on Sunday.

In a press conference, the authority revealed that around 30 to 40 percent of seawater was polluted as a result of dumping 120 cubic meters of half sanitized and contaminated sewage water.

Due to the over 15 years of Israeli blockade, the environment in the Gaza Strip had been heavily polluted and natural resources were running nearly dry, added the authority, which called on the world to lift the unjust blockade on the people of Gaza.
