Proof House displays advanced capabilities at Tawazun Industrial Park’s ISNR stand

ABU DHABI, A visit to the Abu Dhabi Proof House at the Tawazun Industrial Park (TIP) stand at ISNR reveals the extent of its services and advanced capabilities in testing and qualification of safety of firearms, ammunition, body armor and armored vehicles.

The Proof House, an integral part of the TIP Testing and Qualification Centre (TQC), uses cutting-edge technology to test and certify small arms through to automatic weapons, which puts it among the world’s top test centres.

The Proof House conducts testing to international hard ballistic standards to measure the effectiveness of ballistic protective solutions in resisting penetration from bullets and fragments. Proof House is able to test and verify bulletproof body armor for resistance according to NIJ Standard 0101.04 Class II, III-A, III and IV to meet the growing demand from the armed forces and other law enforcement and security organisations. They have proudly expanded their capabilities to include NATO STANAG 4569 and AEP-55 Vol. 1 Level IV for military armor.

Shareef Hashim Al Hashimi, Chairman of TIP, said, “Abu Dhabi Proof House has been playing a crucial role in ensuring safety of firearms and ammunition in the UAE, thanks to its capabilities and to the UAE’s membership to the CIP.”

Faiz Al Nahdi, MD and Chief Executive Officer of TIP, said, “The Abu Dhabi Proof House is a critical arm of our Testing & Qualification Centre and deals with firearms, ammunition, protective equipment and ballistics testing and qualification. Our aim is to continuously add to these capabilities and position ourselves as the leading centre of excellence, regionally and globally.”

The UAE is a member of the Brussels-based Commission Internationale Permanente Pour l`Epreuve des Armes à Feu portatives (CIP). Accordingly, the Proof House tests and certifies all UAE-made weapons to ensure that they meet all safety requirements for international markets. This includes all weapons from small caliber hand guns to big bore sniper rifles. Every weapon is checked and no less than 2 rounds are fired from every barrel to ensure that they reach the required CIP safety standards.

The Proof House also conducts testing of firearms for small arms and assault rifles according to NATO and CSTO standards up to 14.5 x 114 mm caliber. This includes bullet velocity metering, firearms accuracy testing, rate of fire and trigger scanning.

Ammunition that is tested includes Full Metal Jacket, Armored Piercing and Hard Core Incendiary rounds. Proof House carries out individual tests on samples of ammunition supplied. Inspection and checking of the dimensions of the rounds, the mean pressure and other parameters as well as functional safety testing is conducted.
