Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi hosts Korean traditional painting exhibition

ABU DHABI, A Korean traditional painting exhibition titled ‘Korean Traditional Paintings by Promising Painters’ has begun at Sorbonne University Atrium in Abu Dhabi, and will continue until 28th October.

The Korean Cultural Centre (KCC) in the UAE and the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage have co-organised the event in collaboration with Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi.

The exhibition is one of the initiatives by the KCC to promote cultural exchange between Korea and the UAE. A total number of 26 works, including 4 group works and 22 individual works, are being showcased.

According to the Korean National University of Cultural Heritage, most of the artworks brought to Abu Dhabi were painted just for the exhibition and the artists tried to add some elements of the Arab culture into the paintings so that audiences in the UAE can easily grasp Korean traditional arts with some familiarity.

The artworks include paintings of Dancheong, traditional multicoloured paintwork on wooden buildings such as temples and palaces; and falcons, the symbolic bird in the UAE.

Nam Chan-woo, Director of the KCC said, “I am pleased to exhibit the works of promising young Korean artists here in Abu Dhabi. I think this exhibition is more meaningful not only in introducing various traditional Korean paintings to Abu Dhabi, but also it provides opportunities for students from both countries to interact with each other.”
