Swedish Ambassador visits Jerash

Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Rydmark Monday visited Jerash Governorate and met local and women leaders.

During her tour of the governorate, 48 kilometers north of Amman, the ambassador, accompanied by Swedish Embassy staff members, met with Jerash Governor Firas Abu Qaoud to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the governorate in addition to the strong bilateral relations between Sweden and Jordan.

They also talked about Sweden’s participation in the upcoming 35th edition of the Jerash Festival.

The ambassador met with members of Jerash Women’s Association where she listened to their success stories and the challenges they face amid the COVID-19 pandemic and finally took a tour around the association’s handicraft showroom.

“It was my great pleasure to visit Jerash, one of Jordan’s most historical cities. I had a fruitful discussion with HE the governor and was amazed by the fantastic work of the women of Jerash. I concluded my visit with an interesting tour around the old Roman city of Jerash, the ambassador said.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Sweden and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

As part of the celebrations, Rydmark is visiting all of the 12 governorates of Jordan: one governorate per month. Due to Covid-19, most visits have been virtual so far.
