The Minister of Foreign Affairs discusses with his Kuwaiti counterpart an end to the border issues between Iraq and Kuwait

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein received today, Sunday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Baghdad.

According to the Ministry’s statement, the two sides discussed a number of issues related to bilateral relations in light of the steady growth witnessed by these relations.

The Minister affirmed Baghdad’s keenness to develop joint cooperation with Kuwait, expressing his aspiration to continue working to develop the distinguished relations between the two countries and develop them at all levels.

Hussein called for devoting balance in relations at the regional level, in a way that strengthens joint relations between the countries of the region.

The Minister also stressed the importance of cooperation in confronting the scourge of drugs and how to control it, explaining that the border demarcation file was discussed and it was agreed that committees would continue to convene on the file, and he also stressed the end of border issues between Iraq and Kuwait.

He added that the oil file and the shared fields were part of our discussions, indicating that the correct framework for solving problems is dialogue.

He emphasized; The relations between the two countries are strong and developed and will continue with cooperation and dialogue between the two sides, indicating that Iraq and Kuwait welcome the Saudi-Iranian agreement, stressing joint work in the security field to protect the countries of the region, as the security of the region is considered collective security.

For his part, the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister stated that Iraq is a neighboring country with which we have deep-rooted and strong historical relations, indicating that we had very fruitful discussions and our determination to implement what happened in the talks.

He stressed the need to work on ending the maritime border demarcation file, explaining that we found a congruence of views with the Iraqi side. He referred to the decision to open a Commercial Attaché at the Kuwaiti consulate in Basra, expressing Kuwait’s keenness to restore matters to normal in the historical trade relationship.

Our research clarified the regional and international files that are directly reflected in the security of our two countries, pointing out that our leadership wishes Iraq and its people security and prosperity.
