UFC 280 headline set after Oliveira, Makhachev make weight

ABU DHABI, Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev made weight on Friday morning to confirm their lightweight title fight this Saturday at UFC 280: OLIVEIRA vs MAKHACHEV.

The Brazilian Oliveira weighed in first at 154.5lbs, with Makhachev recording exactly the same weight moments later. The two will now clash for the vacant lightweight title at the Etihad Arena, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi Saturday night.

In the co-main event, bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling, and challenger TJ Dillashaw both came in at championship weight of 135lbs. Sterling will make his second title defence in the UAE capital, while Dillashaw will be looking to reclaim the gold.

The standout bantamweight clash between Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley was also confirmed, with Yan weighing in at 136lbs, and American O’Malley half a pound lighter.

UFC 280: OLIVEIRA vs MAKHACHEV will be the latest event held in the UAE capital as part of the partnership between the UFC, and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) which began in 2019.

October will also see the return of Abu Dhabi Showdown Week from October 17 -23, anchored by UFC 280 and consisting of other sports and entertainment ancillary events, powered by Flash Entertainment.
