US Secretary of State: Global warming is more dangerous than nuclear war

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stressed that the potential threat of nuclear war is not more serious than the existential problem of climate change, and said that there is no hierarchy in these issues.

The US Secretary of State added, in response to a question about what is the thing that poses a greater challenge to humanity, nuclear war or global climate change: “I don’t think there is any kind of hierarchy. There are some things that are central and have priority including potential conflict, but without a doubt it represents Climate is an existential challenge for all of us.”

He added, “For us, global warming is the existential challenge of our time, but this does not mean that there are no other acute challenges to the international system. We must be multitasking.”
