Deputy Minister of Water and Environment Haneen Al-Duraib was briefed on the progress of work on the solar energy project to operate the desalination plant on Kamaran Island in Al-Hodeida province.

The Deputy Minister of Water, accompanied by the Undersecretary of the Public Authority for Water Resources, Eng. Abdul Karim Al-Sufyani, and the Director of the Kamran Directorate, Abdul Qadir Madani, from the Director General of the Local Corporation for Water and Sanitation in Hodeida, Abdul Rahman Ishaq Ali, listened to an explanation of its components and the tower tank, which has a capacity of 50 cubic meters.

Al-Duraib and Al-Sufiani also reviewed the solar energy project to operate the Makram water station, as well as the project to install a solar energy system to operate three water desalination plants “Kamran Village, Makram Village, and Yemen Village” with a total capacity of 225 kilowatts at a total cost of 160 million riyals funded by the Hodeida Development Fund.

Al-Duraib and his entourage visited rainwater harvesting tank, which was damaged as a result of being targeted by the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression coalition warplane at the end of 2018.

He quickly directed the preparation of an integrated study for the rehabilitation and restoration of the rainwater harvesting tank, as well as the study of replacing the Yaman village desalination plant and linking the station to the tower tank.

Al-Duraib stressed the need to provide spare parts for the water stations on the island, which would contribute to operating them and pumping water for citizens and alleviating their suffering in light of the repercussions of the aggression and blockade.
