Blast kills one security personnel, injures 6 in N. Pakistan


At least one security personnel of paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) was killed while six others including civilians were wounded in a blast targeting a security forces vehicle in Pakistan’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province on Monday, said military.



A statement issued by Pakistan military’s media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that one FC official was killed while six others including three civilians were injured when a blast targeted a vehicle of security forces in Warsak road area of Peshawar city, the provincial capital. “Sanitization of the area is being carried out in the area to eliminate the terrorists and their facilitators,” said ISPR, adding that security forces were “determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers, as well as valiant civilian brethren, further strengthen our resolve”. According to initial police investigations, kilograms of explosives were used in the improvised explosive device (IED) blast. An emergency was declared in all hospitals of Peshawar and injured were shifted to the nearest government run medical facilities.



The blast comes a day after at least seven militants were killed and six others received injuries in an exchange of fire during a security operation in Chitral district of KPK bordering Afghanistan. The terror activities have risen in the country following the end of ceasefire by the banned outfit Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan with the government last year.
