Deputy Minister of Fisheries briefed on conditions of fishermen in Kamaran Island

Deputy Minister of Fisheries Tahir Khater briefed on the situation of fishermen and workers in the fisheries sector in Kamaran Island in Hodeida province.

The Deputy Minister met with the Under-Secretaries of the Traditional Fisheries Sector, Abdul Hamid Salah, and the Production and Marketing Services, Abdul Ghani Al-Wali, with a number of fishermen, and listened to their concerns and challenges as a result of targeting aggression against the fisheries sector and traditional fishing, as well as their needs to continue fishing and improve the living conditions of their families.

Together with the Director of the Directorate of Kamaran Mohamed Madani and a number of concerned leaders and social figures, they also learned about the desalination plant and a number of educational and health centres targeted by the aggression warplane, as well as the suffering of the island’s inhabitants, which was exacerbated by the repeated and systematic targeting of life-sustaining aggression.

The Deputy Minister of Fisheries confirmed the support of the Ministry and the Higher Committee of Agriculture and Fisheries for Fishermen on the island of Kamaran and the provision of possibilities and means to help them return to their work, as well as to ensure their safety in the exercise of their work. He noted the interest of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council in promoting the fish sector.

He noted the importance of the role relied on the Tahama Coast Association in coordination with the relevant authorities to care for the fishermen, provide their needs and market their products. They praised the island’s steadfastness despite their targeting by aggression.

In addition, a meeting on the island chaired by the Deputy Minister of Fisheries and in the presence of the directors of the Agricultural and Fisheries Promotion Fund, Abdul Wahab Al-Ashwal, and the Tihama Coast Association, Abdel Salam Ibrahim, ways to provide facilities and support for fishermen, and improve marketing and production mechanisms.
