JAKARTA, Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), and Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, have discussed ways of strengthening parliamentary cooperation and the crucial role of the two parliaments in boosting bilateral relations between the two countries.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the G20 Parliamentary Speakers Summit held in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, and was attended by Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, and members of the FNC delegation.
During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the importance of the parliamentary cooperation between the FNC and Azerbaijan’s National Assembly and their efforts to enhance their coordination.
The UAE and Azerbaijan share deep-rooted historical ties, they added, stressing the importance of holding regular bilateral meetings to exchange knowledge and expertise.
The meeting also affirmed the need to strengthen their parliamentary cooperation; promote parliamentary diplomacy by forming a joint parliamentary friendship committee to exchange information, parliamentary expertise and best practices; exchange opinions and coordinate their political stances at various parliamentary events.
