ABU DHABI, The new Board of Trustees of the Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECAE) convened its first Board Meeting under the chairmanship of Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology.
The meeting is part of ECAE’s endeavour to build a world-class education system that focuses on preparing teachers and educators equipped with the tools necessary to graduate future-ready students.
The meeting was attended by ECAE Deputy Chairman Khulood Al Dhaheri, Executive Director Education Partnerships Sector at the Department of Education and knowledge – Abu Dhabi; and Board Members Dr. Bushra Almulla, Executive Director of the Community Development Sector at the Department of Community Development; Amal Nasser Al Jabri, Director General of the Human Resources Authority – Abu Dhabi; Sana Mohamad Suhail; Director General of Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority; and Prof. Tan Oon Seng is Director of the Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
In their first meeting, the participants discussed the college’s strategic plans and educational landscape and its academic programmes.
“The ECAE BoT is ready to support the college’s mission to apply and execute its programmes and plans efficiently. The ECAE is committed to equip educators with the knowledge and tools needed to prepare a generation of Emiratis ready to occupy high-demanding roles and shape a promising future for our country,” said Al Amiri.
“It is imperative to invest in our teachers and develop their educational skills since they are the heart and core of the education system and play a key role in the empowerment of students in their classrooms,” Chairperson Al Amiri added.
Minister Al Amiri also paid tribute to the previous Board of Trustees, expressing her thanks and appreciation for performing their duties competently, emphasizing that the new BoT will continue to play its part in enhancing the position of the ECAE and contribute to the development of the education system in the UAE.
For her part, Dr. May Al Taee, Vice Chancellor of ECAE, said that the college is committed to delivering programmes of the highest standards, noting that the new BoT is well aware of utilising innovation and excellence in various ways accredited academic and professional development programmes.
“The ECAE offers postgraduate development programmes to encourage and motivate newly graduated students to enroll in the education system and to become qualified educators ready to teach mathematics, science, and English language literacy among others employing cutting-edge technologies and advanced teaching methodologies that focus on the national identity,” she remarked.
The Vice-Chancellor pointed to the importance of practical training for fresh graduates to refine their skills and equip them with the necessary experience to be ready for their teaching careers such as applying teaching strategies and methodologies in different subjects.
Dr. Al Taee added that the different programmes offered by the ECAE increase the cognitive levels of the students and explore new concepts of success for the teachers of the future by enabling them to overcome the challenges they face and align with the new generations of students, “which, in turn, would formulate promising Emirati generations of future-ready students.”
The Board Members highlighted the ECAE educational landscape and its aim to reposition itself to be a leader of the future of education in UAE and the world while focusing on impactful research, partnerships and networking, and constitutional capacity through developing the human capital and drawing the higher education framework.
Implementing such a strategy, the ACAE will be able to improve the educational outcomes in schools with a focus on Emiratis; ensure the pursuit of their careers while acquiring new skills necessary for the job market; and foster a culture of continuous learning and development to ensure that Emiratis can find suitable jobs based on their merits.
