After months of fighting, the Russian private military Wagner Group announces control of Bakhmut, in Ukraine

The Commander of the Russian private military Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, announced full control of the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, which was the focus of the longest battle in the Russian war.

Prigozhin appeared in military uniform in front of a line of fighters carrying Russian flags and Wagner banners, stressing that his units took control of the entire city of Bakhmut, at midday today.

He explained: His forces will withdraw from Bakhmut, starting next Thursday, corresponding to May 25, to rest and retrain, after they fought battles voluntarily, in order to preserve the interests of the Russian people.
